Kiwi Production in Iran

Iran annually produces about 221,000 tons of fresh kiwi. Iran ranked among the top kiwi producers in the world after Chile, Italy and New Zealand. There are over 8,000 hectares of Kiwi farms in Iran.

more than 52,100 tons of kiwi worth $27.6 million were exported in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17), according to figures released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

Most of these farms are located in the northern province of Gilan and Mazandaran. Mazandaran province is the top producer of kiwis in Iran with the annual production of 110000 tons.

Also, the state of Guilan stands in the second place with more than 70000tons of fresh kiwis produced every year. There are a lot of varieties of kiwis that are cultivated in Iran. Also recently, some farmers have been producing golden kiwis.

The north of Iran has the appropriate mild and humid weather required of producing high quality kiwis. Iranian farmers have increased their kiwi production from 25tons per hectare, to 50tons per hectare in the past few years.

Iran also ranked eighth and biggest exporter of kiwi. Kiwi import from Iran to all parts of the world, and Iran plans to expand its exports.

Iran is one of the largest kiwi fruit producers and exporters in the Middle East and even in the world.India is the biggest costumer of the Iranian kiwis. They kiwi import from Iran with the average annual amount of 15000 tons according to India department of agriculture cooperation and the kiwi production in Iran and the export towards India is also constantly increasing.

Exporting fresh kiwis to Russia is a multi-million-dollar industry, which became possible with the short distance between the two countries. This short distance and the sea border has also helped reduce the shipping costs and decrease the final price.
